The three decades of Windows
At this time, 75 millions of devices in the world use the Windows operating system 10 that was developed by Microsoft, but 30 years ago, when the first version was released to the market, few trusted that it was successful or was an important competitor for the software Apple.
Although it was announced in 1983, Bill Gates and his team took two years to get Microsoft Windows 1.0 ready, and that's why several experts called it an unlikely project.
Fortunately, the technology showed that they were wrong and 20 1985 officially launched it in November, managing to sell 500 a thousand units in the next two years.
Since then 10 versions have been developed, some of them dear and others not so much by the users, which have caused it to be the most used operating system in the world and have high expectations.
The 1.0 version
Something that little has been said, is that the first name they used in the company to refer to this software it was "Interface Manager". However, they decided to change it to Microsoft Windows because it better describes the way it works.
This is because the first version was actually an interface that allowed opening windows or boxes using the MS-DOS commands, the first Microsoft operating system.
Unlike today, it is possible to download the operating system from the network, in 1985 the software it was stored on two double-sided floppy disks, and a minimum of storage was required on the 256 kilobytes machine.
The first programs
When the first version was released, Gates and his team knew that it was necessary to add some programs, and those that were available were Paint, Windows Writer, Notepad, the calculator, a calendar file and the clock.
In terms of entertainment, the only game available was called Reversi, also known as Othello, which was for two players and who won the most chips on the board. Over the years came others like the classics Minesweeper, Lonely, Chess o Pinball.
The start button
This button is essential for people to find the application they are looking for, and the first time it appeared in Windows was with the 1995 version, to which the taskbar was added and the minimize, maximize and close buttons in each window .
This operating system was so popular in its time that it had the sales record by placing seven million copies in the first five weeks.
The previous thing was surpassed this year by Windows 10, when placing 14 million of units the first day, although great fault of this caused that you are going out to the market was free, giving the option to the users with previous operative systems to be able to update to Windows 10.
The not so loved ones
Microsoft has had to face throughout these three decades that not all Windows are loved by users, particularly in the case of Vista and 8.
Common users and industry experts complained that in Windows Vista a lot of RAM was consumed, had little compatibility with the hardware and had a high price.
While the worst mistake that could be made in the 8 version was to eliminate the classic "start button" to which people were already accustomed. The discontent was so great that the technology had to launch the 8.1 update to include it.
